OTTAWA HOUSE

Ottawa House is an innovative workspace community located in the downtown north side of Thunder Bay in a beautiful heritage building, one block from Lake Superior and the Marina. With a funky blend of history and urban coolness this space offers individual workspace, meeting rooms, a lounge/cafe, and a great open- concept work environment. We offer big office amenities to independents and telecommuters who otherwise would be working from homes, hotels, cafes, and anywhere they can set up a laptop. This is not just another place to rent a desk; this is a great place to work, play, and collaborate with others. We provide memberships, not leases, for people looking for a smarter place to work.

There is a co-working movement happening in North America, with offices opening up in larger centers such as New York, San Francisco, Toronto, and Vancouver. Thunder Bay is unique as it has a large community of people who live here because they want the excellent quality of life that this community has to offer. This area attracts people who have flexible careers. Developers, writers, marketers, engineers, designers, and other independent business owners can now find space to work and grow.

Our Heritage

The Ottawa House is a designated Ontario Heritage site. It was rebuilt in 1885 after a fire destroyed two wooden hotels built earlier in the decade. A major addition was made in 1901, with the architectural detailing carefully matched. The facade features ornate wooden balconies on the upper floors. Inside, the space has been sensitively refurbished and reflects a library-meets-cafe atmosphere. Large windows allow for great light and natural sunshine.

INSIDE THE SPACE

The Ottawa House is a funky, energetic work environment. Our heritage space has high ceilings dating back to the 1800s, with original pressed metal. The walls are painted with intense, energizing colours. We have a coffee bar instead of a reception desk, and newspapers and business magazines to help keep you informed. Blackboards are used for messages, information sharing, and brainstorming. Ikea desk stations each have comfortable chairs, a rolling storage unit, and great lighting. You can rent a locker, a parking space, a meeting room, etc. We have VOIP so you can make those long distance calls without the big telephone bill.

Our play room is available for meetings and brainstorming sessions. It's a great way to visit, build relationships, collaborate, and work through that creative block.

You can drop in any time, have a coffee and access the WiFi. The bar has electrical plugs if your battery runs low. And the business news is always on.

With a desk membership, our fresh brewed coffee is free. We are still taking applications but the desk membership are disappearing fast so don't delay if you're considering getting one.

As of August 15, 2008 we only have three desks left.

The drop in table is large enough for up to ten people with great lighting and electrical outlets (above).

If you want to reserve a desk, you can hold this space for as little as $250.00 per month. And nobody will sit here, just you. The desk membership also gives you a locker and a rolling cabinet (below and below left).

The Playroom is also available for brain storming or meetings. This space can be rented by the hour or half day for as little as $25-50.00.

This room seats up to eight and has two folding tables, a large black board, flip charts and markers.

Long distance telephone calls can be made all over North America on our VOiP system. Multi-party calls can also be arranged.
